Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral (Level A) or Research (Level B) Fellow in Theoretical/Computational Neuroscience in the Brain Dynamics Group of the School of Physics, working with Federation Fellow Prof. Peter Robinson. The group has excellent computational facilities and provides a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment with wide international biomedical research collaborations.
The successful applicant will work on modeling neuronal networks, sleep dynamics, and/or nonlinear brain dynamics (depending on expertise) using a mix of theoretical and computational approaches, and interacting with a highly interdisciplinary group. Essential Criteria at both levels: 1. A PhD (or thesis submitted before applying) in theoretical/computational neuroscience, physics, biophysics, or biomedical engineering, mathematical biology, applied mathematics, or closely related field. 2. Experience in mathematical modeling and scientific computations. 3. Proven research ability and evidence of potential and self-motivation. 4. Demonstrated written communication skills, including publications in refereed journals. 5. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
The following are Desirable Criteria at Level A, and essential at Level B: 6. Experience in computational/theoretical neuroscience or sleep research. 7. Experience in interdisciplinary work.
The following are Desirable Criteria at both levels: 8. Experience with Kalman or Bayesian filters and/or with formal nonlinear dynamics. 9. Ability to start work by March 2009.
This position is full-time, fixed term for 2-3 years initially, with possibility of extension up to 4 years total, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period, performance, need, and funding.
Remuneration package Level A: $78,288 – $84,036 p.a. (which includes a base salary $66,155 – $71,012 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
Remuneration package Level B: $88,466 – $105,052 p.a. (which includes a base salary $74,755 – $88,771 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
Assistance towards relocation and Visa sponsorship will be provided for the successful appointees if required. The level and duration of appointment will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
