Glassblower/Electromechanical Technician – Hull

An able Glassblower is sought to provide a Glassblowing service within the Department of Physical Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, construction and repair of glassware and equipment as well as support for the electromechanical workshop.

Applicants should ideally have a glassblowing/mechanical engineering background and be capable of working independently as well as having good interpersonal skills.

You will carry out independent and collaborative research in Clinical Chemistry and Metabolic Medicine, generate research income and contribute to the teaching of Clinical Chemistry at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Department’s major interests centre around immunoassay development, HPLC, Tandem MS, ICPMS, bone metabolism, endocrine biochemistry and nutrition.

You will also perform Clinical Scientist duties related to an area of specialist interest within the NHS Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for a laboratory technician with microbiology experience
Duties:
· Designing experimental trials to meet customers’ requirements
· Carrying out experiments and keeping appropriate records
· Reporting on results obtained in the form of written reports and/or presentations, as required
· Maintaining laboratory working standards
· Media preparation and quality control, as required by individual projects
· Calibration and routine maintenance of analytical instruments and other aspects of laboratory maintenance

Requirements:

You will be required to work within a team of Microbiologists within the lab in accordance with GLP/GMP. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise work and ensure that all work undertaken is adequately reported.

You will be able to work under minimum supervision and should be able to design experimental trials according to standards.

Qualification and Experience

The job holder should be qualified to a minimum of HNC level in a Life Science/ Microbiology discipline. Minimum 1 year relative experience working in a Microbiology laboratory ideally within pharmaceutical industry . Experience of analytical testing would be advantageous

Postdoctoral Researcher – Liverpool

Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics

This is an MRC funded project that is focussed on understanding the role of SLCO transporters in variability of exposure to antiretroviral protease inhibitors. You will work alongside other members of the Liverpool HIV Pharmacology Group. The research will involve high throughput genotyping using sequenom and various other in-vitromethodologies including cloning, transfection, gene expression quantification and cell culture (including Xenopus laevis oocytes).

You should have a PhD in a biomedical or biological science together with experience of relevant techniques and a thorough knowledge of the mechanisms that underpin variability in pharmacokinetics. The post is available for 3 years.
