They now have an immediate vacancy for an experienced formulation analyst to support a small dynamic development laboratory within a new facility based in Bath The candidate will be expected to develop the laboratory’s analytical section: develop and refine HPLC drug assay and related substances methods; generate and help interpret results; and support the work of the formulation team. Role

PURPOSE OF JOB

Role focuses on technical areas of the business with strong emphasis on specifications.

JOB CONTEXT AND CONTENT

The job holder will be the centre of expertise and will manage the customer specification interface with major retailers and others. This will involves liaising with suppliers, customers and staff to ensure that all required information is gathered and that procedures have been followed.
Advice may be sought from TSO, EHO, Food Research associations and Chilled Food Association.

To prepare a range of new product formulations (creams, gels, lotions, shampoos) and monitor them for physical/emulsion stability, pH and viscosity to find the optimum formulation. As part of this development work new materials will require sourcing in-line with current guidelines/directives. Pharmaceutical development reports will require writing and updating for each project.

Formulation Development work will also be required to support and improve Existing Product lines, where necessary. Product line extensions will also be investigated.

1.2Preparing supplies of Development Products for Accelerated Stability Studies

Formulations which have passed the initial screening process will need to be manufactured on a small scale for accelerated stability trials in a range of packaging materials; these will be screened by the analytical laboratory for both chemical and physical stability.

1.3Preparing supplies of Development Products for Stability/Clinical Studies

Formulations selected from the accelerated screening programme are manufactured on a larger scale (up to 100 kg) at our pilot facility at Kempston. The position will include assisting in the dispensing, manufacture and filling of pilot-scale batches for stability/clinical trials. This will involve working to GMP and manual lifting. Data generated from these trials is used for the Product Licence application.

The position will include the labelling and presentation of supplies for clinical trials.

OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE OF THE POST (cont.):

1.4Environmental Monitoring

On an occasional basis, environmental plates and water sample will require monitoring and reporting.

1.5Data Handling

Ability to use computer software packages, such as LIMS, Excel and Word for processing and reporting of data.

1.6Day-to-Day running of the Formulation Laboratory

Take equal part in the overall running of the Formulation Laboratory, including equipment maintenance, calibration of apparatus and other general duties such as solvent disposal.

1.7To bring to the attention of his/her immediate superior any difficulties or problems encountered in the performance of his/her duties.

1.8To be aware of the safety regulations in operation in the department, and in the light of the Health and Safety at work act, to perform his/her duties in such a manner so as not to endanger the safety and health of his/her fellow workers.

1.9To perform other scientific and technical duties as requested.

SKILLS REQUIRED (after suitable training):

The ideal candidate would have a degree/diploma or equivalent in a scientific discipline. Formulation experience, preferably in pharmaceuticals/cosmetics or other skincare products and an appreciation of working in a GMP environment are required.

GENERAL:
