Deputy Telecommunications Manager – Reading – Defence

Assist in the management, protection and future development of the telecommunications systems.
Key accountabilities
To ensure efficient running of all telecommunications safety related systems
To identify any issues that may impact on telecommunications safety related systems both from within the section, the larger company and externally
To identify points of failure and instigate Service Improvement Plans
To ensure that organisation meets its communications capability requirements
Responsibilities
To be the Deputy Facility Manager for Systems, responsible for approving all telecommunications installations within sites and ensuring the safe running of the telecommunications systems
Responsible for ensuring the Company’s compliance with legal requirements and MoD policy and auditing against it
Responsible for contributing towards the development and maintenance of the Telecommunications Strategy
Responsible for contributing towards the development and maintenance of the Telecommunications Business Continuity plan
Liaison with MoD Installation Design Authority working within MoD installation guidelines
Assisting with the configuration management of, and physical changes to Telecommunications Systems
Capturing requirements, designing, design review, planning and managing the installation of new telecommunications systems
Qualifications
Some qualifications on Telecommunications, specifically Mitel equipment and IP Networks is preferred
A degree or good formal technical qualification in Electronics, Communications, Computing or Telecommunications is preferred
Knowledge
Good working knowledge of voice and data communications equipment and practice, particularly in modern PABXs
Good working knowledge of multiple suppliers equipment is preferable
Extensive knowledge in the operation of Voice Mail and Call Logging Platforms and experience in the practical implementation of telecommunications, probably gained with a supplier or in a service section of a large organisation
Conversant in the relevant protocols and procedures for the correct operation of video conferencing
Good knowledge of one or more of the following: voice mail systems, call logging systems, video conferencing systems
Awareness of structured cabling practices
A good understanding of the challenges faced within converged networks
Good general understanding of TCP/IP and Ethernet
A basic knowledge and understanding of computer operating systems
Experience
Knowledge of common faults within voice and VoIP
Experience in operating Video Conferencing Platforms
Proven experience in managing work in a critical system
Experience of telecommunications within MoD or similar environment is preferable
Some experience of facility management is preferable
Some experience of supplier management is preferable
Skills
Good customer facing skills
Computer skills associated with proprietary software such as databases, spreadsheets and word processing and other Business System Software
Skills in the configuration, data fill, operation and maintenance of voice exchanges
Skills in the operation of ISDN video conferencing and video over IP
The ability to learn new knowledge and skills quickly and effectively
Good verbal and written communication
