This exciting post gives you the opportunity to oversee the co-ordination of clinical research projects and clinical trials across all the scientific programme areas of the Unit.You will liaise with Principal Investigators and members of the Functional Group to implement and support the processes of study co-ordination.

You will have the opportunity to lead on the continued development of these processes and be responsible for ensuring that the Units studies and trials adhere to the latest research governance procedures and practices.You will manage the study co-ordination and support team as well as offer support to other members of the Unit (such as CDFs and PhD students) in their study co-ordination role.

We seek someone with a degree or equivalent in a relevant biological, clinical science or health related research area together with considerable senior management experience in an NHS/medical research/academic clinical research environment. Experience of running large multi-centred clinical trials or studies and a thorough understanding of good clinical research practise and the latest research governance are essential, as is experience of line management for a team of staff and a sound knowledge of IT systems in relation to study co-ordination.

As the statistician you role will be to collection, analyze, interpret and present data for all phases of clinical trials. Your responsibilities will include the analysis of clinical data from various clinical studies, validating SAS programs for various clinical studies and developing Statistical Analysis Plans for assigned clinical studies. You will also need to review assigned clinical protocols to provide statistical methodology sections and generate randomization of assigned projects. As a successful candidate you should have an MSc in Statistics or related discipline. Postdoctoral Associate – Immunologist

The Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) is a research institute dedicated to the study of the biological sciences. By using bioinformatics, which combines transdisciplinary approaches to information technology and biology, researchers at VBI interpret and apply vast amounts of biological data generated from basic research to some of today’s key challenges in the biomedical sciences. The institute develops genomic, proteomic and bioinformatics tools that can be applied to the study of infectious diseases as well as the discovery of new vaccines, drugs and diagnostic targets. VBI strongly emphasizes synergistic interactions among faculty and is organized around the concept of team science.

The Nutritional Immunology & Molecular Nutrition Laboratory at VBI investigates the mechanisms of immune modulation by novel phytochemicals and fatty acids. The Postdoctoral Associate will work as a part of a group of scientists and researchers involved in identifying novel, naturally occurring agonists of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma that modulate the activity of macrophages and regulatory T cells. In doing so, will be responsible for conducting experiments aimed at identifying the molecular targets and dissecting the mechanisms of action of such compounds.

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. in immunology, cell and molecular biology or related field; training in immunology; demonstrated expertise in flow cytometry and cell culture assays; demonstrated record of publication in high impact journals peer-reviewed journals; excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills; capable of working in a team environment and a strong inclination for trans-disciplinary science; and possesses creativity, independence, and self-motivation with good communication skills.

Preferences will be given to candidates having knowledge or experience in inflammation, autoimmune disorders and/or nuclear receptor biology; expertise in both basic and clinical immunology research, or grant writing experience.

This position may be funded by federal funds and due to restrictions in the contract from the granting agency, offer of employment may require prior approval from the granting agency.

Dependent on the skills of the successful candidates, the initial appointment may be for one or more years, and may be renewable thereafter depending on satisfactory performance, needs of service and available funding. This position will hold the special research faculty rank of Postdoctoral Associate.
